Root canal treatment removes infected matter at the heart of a tooth. The tooth is then sealed back up again to protect it from reinfection. In some instances, a crown is fitted to ensure the functionality and aesthetic of the tooth in the long term. This is normally necessary for back teeth such as molars, as opposed to front teeth which are under less biting pressure. However, if discolouration has occurred, we may place a crown on a front tooth, to restore its appearance. Infection can occur as a result of an untreated cavity, an abscess or trauma to the face.
